Today

That perfect warm air
that giddy feeling
it happens every spring
and you try to remember what it’s like

Shoulders unhunch
arms expand
under just a t-shirt

It isn’t hot yet

You dimly remember
or remember remembering
some day before you knew
to call it weather

You just opened up
ran out the door without shoes
knew your mother wouldn’t call you back
threw yourself into that air

You can’t remember it all
living in the moment means you are not
checking off boxes
storing things in your memory
you are just feeling the day

So feel this day
forget remembering
let the air touch your skin

If it takes the pretense
of watching your kid
play softball
do that

Sit on the old bleachers
let the talk around you fill the air
but let this air be what you are in

Don’t think of the days ahead
the last ones left
before heat

Be in this air
now
